THE LONG SHADOW: Behind The Scenes Production Notes
In the Spring of 2025, a series of photoshoots were scheduled at Studio 426 in 14C’s 150 Bay Street studio complex. The studio would see a parade of actors donning period costumes, stepping into character, and moving through scripted sequences that would become frames of action to be woven into the final lenticular prints. Lighting was carefully studied and adjusted to match the mood and atmosphere of each scene.
DIGITAL PRODUCTION
Before any photography was undertaken, there first came the challenge of accurately modeling and realistically rendering digital environments to sit the characters into. Vintage photographs were studied and sketches were developed to design the most compelling setting for each vignette. Digital 3D models were built, modified, and their textures and lighting refined… until the rendered scenes were deemed ready for the actors to step into. Smoke and fire simulation software would be used to create the fiery plumes of steam that bellows out of the locomotive’s stack.
THE FINAL INSTALLATION
The Final installation of both pieces as featured in the 2025 14C Art Fair, with the artist and a newsboy included for scale.
